Neil Patel has an excellent article on your Marketing Budget. Today, every business owner, big and small, have a lot of marketing distractions. They face issues such as how and what social media platforms should be used and of course, what tools will help them increase their ROI.

Fortunately, Neil has analyzed the tools and gives you very specific recommendations on which tools to consider for your marketing tools. Please go read the entire article and selectively use the tools that will give you the biggest bang for your buck!

Neil points out that it’s really easy today to spend tons of money on the latest tools to analyze your website, visitors etc. but there is still one flaw that all the whiz bang tools won’t cure-lack of original and compelling content!

In my years of working with my own websites; I can tell you that I believe, content is still king. Your job is to tell your story but make it so riveting and compelling that new customers can’t wait to do business with you. It still surprises me to see some fairly good content on websites without a call to action. Always ask for the order!!

Go read and study Neil’s article and then look at your content before you spend any more money on tools! Good Luck.

I’m sitting here at my favorite Starbucks in Greenwood Village, Colorado. Prominently displayed is the new book by Howard Schultz on How Starbucks Got Its Grove Back or How Starbucks Fought for Its Life without Losing Its Soul!!

I’ve met some very interesting small business owners at Starbucks and they too sometimes feel as though they are fighting for their life when it comes to Internet Marketing. Two examples come to mind:

Internet Marketing

I was recently perusing the heading of Denver Auto Accident Lawyers and I came across this listing:

Colorado’s Personal Injury Attorney – Serving the Denver Area and

OUT OF COURT SETTLEMENTS ARE POSSIBLE WITH DENVER PERSONAL INJURY ATTORNEY DALLAS NORTON AND THE COLORADO PERSONAL INJURY LAW FIRM NORTON LAW OFFICES, P.C.

When a company uses all caps; I feel as though they are screaming at me. I’ve seen more than one lawyer do this, not only in Denver but in many other states. My advice to clients and their Internet marketing efforts is not to use all caps because potential clients may be turned off, what are your thoughts? Do you prefer regular type or do you think it’s a good idea to yell out DENVER AUTO ACCIDENT LAWYERS?

Divorce Attorney Marketing

The search term Divorce Attorney Aurora Colorado can be a pretty competitive heading. The attorneys in Aurora are seeing a great deal of SEO efforts from their counterparts in Denver!

As I was purusing the heading of Divorce Attorney Aurora Colorado I came across this interesting search:

Home page not searchable in Google – Indexing Problem? – Webmaster …Dec 30, 2008 … Look here for an Aurora Colorado Divorce Attorney, Parker Colorado Divorce Attorney, or Greenwood Village Colorado Divorce Attorney. …
www.google.com/support/forum/p/Webmasters/thread?tid…hl… – Cached Get more discussion results

Pretty impressive, right? Well, the owner of the site said this in the Google forums:

My home page, http://alterfamilylaw.com, no longer shows up through a google search. Other pages in the subdirectory do show up easily. This has been going on for about three to four weeks now, so time hasn’t fixed it. I can copy and paste text (with quotes) from my subpages into google and those pages come up first (because the text is original). However, when I do the same with my home page, Google does not find anything. I do not have this problem with the other search engines. I have no penalty (as fas I know). My home page has a PR of 1, which may be low, but the subpages all have a PR of 0. Google can only find the home page if I type “alterfamilylaw.com”. That is fairly useless. My server has experienced no errors or down time. I can’t for the life of me figure this one out. Can anyone take a look and give me a few suggestions on how to fix or approach this? It’s a fairly significant issue since there has been a large drop-off in new client contact since this occurred. Thanks, all.

Here was some great advice he received:

From you’re homepage:

For seo and landing page purposes:

Look here for a Denver Colorado Family Law Attorney, Aurora Colorado Family Law Attorney, or Parker Colorado Family Law Attorney .  Look here for a Greenwood Village Colorado Family Law Attorney, Highlands Ranch Colorado Family Law Attorney, or Centennial Colorado Family Law Attorney. Look here for an Englewood Colorado Family Law Attorney, Castle Rock Colorado Family Law Attorney, or Arapahoe County Colorado Family Law Attorney.  Look here for a Douglas County Colorado Family Law Attorney, Denver Colorado Family Law Lawyer, or Aurora Colorado Family Law Lawyer. Look here for a Parker Colorado Family Law Lawyera, Greenwood Village Colorado Family Law Lawyer, or Highlands Ranch Colorado Family Law Lawyer. Look here for a Centennial Colorado Family Law Lawyer, Englewood Colorado Family Law Lawyer, or Castle Rock Colorado Family Law Lawyer. Look here for an Arapahoe County Colorado Family Law Lawyer, Douglas County Colorado Family Law Lawyer, or Denver Colorado Divorce Attorney. Look here for an Aurora Colorado Divorce Attorney, Parker Colorado Divorce Attorney, or Greenwood Village Colorado Divorce Attorney. Look here for a Highlands Ranch Colorado Divorce Attorney, Centennial Colorado Divorce Attorney, or Englewood Colorado Divorce Attorney. Look here for a Castle Rock Colorado Divorce Attorney, Arapahoe County Colorado Divorce Attorney, or Douglas County Colorado Divorce Attorney. Look here for a Denver Colorado Divorce Lawyer, Aurora Colorado Divorce Lawyer, or Parker Colorado Divorce Lawyer. Look here for a Greenwood Village Colorado Divorce Lawyer, Highlands Ranch Colorado Divorce Lawyer, or Centennial Colorado Divorce Lawyer. Look here for an Englewood Colorado Divorce Lawyer, Castle Rock Colorado Divorce Lawyer, or Arapahoe County Colorado Divorce Lawyer. Look here for a Douglas County Colorado Divorce Lawyer.

I’m surprised that you are not banned:
ASAP remove the hidden text below “For seo and landing page purposes:” , double check the whole site against guidelines (http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=35769)
And submit a reconsideration request detailing the changes.

It looks like he did follow the advice because he is now showing up on page 2 for the search term Divorce Attorney Aurora Colorado. I still see a lot of keyword stuffing from attorneys so I thought it might be a good idea to review this practice and to let all you attorneys know that Google is well area of this tactic and when they find you…you will be punished!!

I went to his site and he still does some stuffng:

Alter Family Law provides divorce and family law services to all Metro-Denver Colorado including Aurora, Centennial, Englewood, Greenwood Village, Littleton, Highlands Ranch, Parker, Castle Rock, Arapahoe, Douglas, Adams, and Jefferson Colorado and surrounding areas.

If you insist on doing this stuff, you would be better served to have a hyperlink to a page that is specific to each of those areas. For example, have a page that is dedicated to Divorce Attorney Denver. It will only help you in the long run!!

Denver Automobile Accident Lawyers

Filed Under (Internet Marketing) by Steve Mertz on 15-12-2010

Yesterday I was having fun with Google’s explanation about their search links. Google justified their links by saying that their goal is to provide users “with answers as quickly as possible and presented in a way that’s easy to read and understand.”

Well, they may be ocassionally right! Consider the search for Denver Automobile Accident Lawyers. Right on page one of the search you see the following results:

Great Success ! Apache is working on your cPanel® and WHM™ Server. If you can see this page, then the people who manage this server have installed cPanel …

So imagine, you do all of those SEO efforts to attain the main page and a potential client with a million dollar suit can’t even access your website…Google may have a valid point in this case 😉

So, let’s modify the search and try Denver Auto Accident Lawyers…there they are on page two, with the same message-Ouch!!

Give that webmaster a big Christmas bonus!!

denver mitsubishiA Starbucks buddy of mine owns Quality Mitsubishi located in Littleton, Colorado. He is in the process of a website redesign so I took a peek. As you can imagine auto dealers in Denver are very competitive and there are several Mitsubishi dealers located in Denver and the surrounding areas. Henry, is a typical entrepreneur who happens to own an auto dealership with a lot to consider when it comes to advertising those Mitsubishi cars! For example, the average Mitsubishi dealer has a yellow page presence, radio, TV and Internet website. That’s a lot of money going out the door. I was surprised to learn that not only does Quality Mitsubishi have a website but I noticed that they also had a fairly active Google AdWords program as well. Read the rest of this entry »

Professional SpeakerThis weekend I’m going to my monthly meeting for professional speakers and one of the presenters is talking about writing great copy for marketing material. She will be discussing writing great copy that engages your audience and meeting planners so you can be hired and not starve as a professional speaker! This of course, got me to thinking about keywords and search engine optimization. As a professional speaker I can tell you that my peers are some of the worst offenders for having web sites, blogs and marketing material with no regard to keywords and search engine optimization-for all of my competitors, please don’t change!
